Sujatha’s father represents orthodoxy. He cannot accept a love blooming between his daughter and a member of the "lower" caste and a different religion. To complicate matters, a wealthy, educated man (played by Jayasuriya) enters the scene, forcing Sujatha into a loveless marriage.
