This paper examines Stephen Chow’s 2004 film Kung Fu Hustle through the lens of audiovisual translation, focusing on its Albanian subtitle version (“Me Titra Shqip”). It explores how the film’s hybrid genre (martial arts, slapstick, Cantonese opera), cultural references, and linguistic humor are rendered for an Albanian-speaking audience. Using translation studies frameworks (e.g., Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies, Venuti’s domestication/foreignization), the analysis highlights challenges in conveying puns, onomatopoeia, and intertextual allusions. Findings suggest that Albanian subtitles prioritize intelligibility and comedic timing over literal accuracy, often domesticating culturally specific elements.
