DiskInternals uses a combination of offline activation checks and online verification for newer versions. A so-called "fixed" version usually modifies the DiskInternals VMFS Recovery.exe or patches the registry. Antivirus software (Windows Defender, McAfee, Symantec) will quarantine these files immediately.
